For about a year, I worked as a research assistant in a lab at UCLA. As in a lot of labs, recruitment was a real pain point. We relied on paying recruitment services thousands of dollars, mostly to connect us with UCLA students, people who walk past our building every day. On top of that, every couple of weeks each of us spent hours putting up flyers across Los Angeles, and more hours each week posting across social media.
All that time and money went into recruitment, and very little came back. Meanwhile, thousands of students on campus would take part in research if they knew where to look. StudyLane is where the two find each other.
As a first-generation Lebanese American, I grew up seeing how culture, language, family and trust shape people’s experience of medicine. Research only reflects the people who take part in it, so taking part should be easy for everyone, not just the students who already know where to look.
My mission is to make taking part in research as easy as signing up for a class, and to give research teams one place to find participants, run their studies and record credit. Starting at UCLA.
